A Logan Square two-flat joined into a single house. The kitchen faces south and gets light from seven in the morning until the blinds go down, so it became the room everything else is measured against: pale sage walls that take the noon light without glare, white oak that warms in the morning, a marble counter that holds the last of the evening.

Upstairs, the bedroom ceiling is a blue-gray that reads as sky at six in the evening and as nothing at all at midnight, which is the point of a bedroom ceiling. The bathroom is white square tile, because a south bathroom needs nothing else.
